thank you for all that i have

often i forget how lucky i am. some days i wake up asking god for things instead simply saying thank you for all that i have. in addition to everything listed on this poster, these are just a few things i'm giving thanks for today:

1. my wonderful fiancé, who can make light of any situation. he makes me laugh, keeps me grounded, and makes me feel like the most important person in the world.
2. the baby in my belly, who is now the size of a large cantaloupe!
3. my loving, caring mom and dad
4. my health
5. my grandparents, who are alive and well
6. our new house, and the way it's cozy and comforting at the end of a long day
7. my smart, beautiful sisters christyn and caitlin, with whom i've made some of my best memories
8. my job and the awesome people i get to work with
9. freddie, who greets me at the front door like i've been gone for days even when it's been just minutes
10. being able to start the day with warm, holiday coffee drinks in red cups

♥ have a thankful day

how i spent my weekend: nesting

they say at the end of pregnancy, no matter how tired you are, you get a sudden burst of energy and feel the need to organize every drawer, cupboard, and closet in the house, and then clean like you're hosting the king and queen for dinner. they call it nesting.

lately, instead of relaxing at home or going out with friends, i fall victim to nesting. this weekend i washed every baby blanket, onesie, towel and burp cloth we have, organized the baby's closet and dresser drawers, bought a crib mattress, hung pictures and shelves in the nursery (with jeff's help), organized all the baby bathroom supplies, and bugged poor jeff to death about installing car seats, even though the baby's not due for five weeks.

in my mind, there's still lots of work to do. in reality, we're just about ready.

week 34

with only six weeks left to go, baby is as big as a honeydew, weighing about five pounds and measuring 18 inches long. this week, she's recognizing and reacting to the songs we sing, and her once skinny arms and legs are now quite plumpand irresistibly, squeezably soft!

where we stayed. what we ate. what we did.

i left my heart in san francisco.

in fact, every time i leave that city, i leave a little piece of my heart with it. it's familiar yet different, ritzy yet down-home, historic yet chic. it's everything i love about urban living. it's walkable, small (only seven square miles), and excellent for people-watching. i miss walking to work and everywhere else, never worrying about where to park or designating a driver or the skyrocketing price of gas. i miss quirky neighborhoods like the haight and the castro, and dirty (but ethnic and interesting) ones like the mission.

ah, san francisco.

i'm smart enough to know the grass is always greener on the other side, though, which is why i'm completely happy with my choice to live in portland and go back to visit sf as often as i can. last weekend, jeff and i went back to visit. we saw old friends, spent a day wandering the city, ate breakfast in the mission and sipped espresso in soma, and took the train to palo alto for the oregon football game.

here are some photos of where we stayed, what we ate, and what we did.

we're off to san francisco!

ah, san francisco. the city i once called home. jeff and i are flying there tonight for one last adventure before the baby arrives. i know i’ve said this before, but i promise this really is the last one. (my feet are starting to swell and it’s getting uncomfortable to sleep, which doesn’t make me the most fun person to travel with.)

(tmi?)

we’re staying here and taking the train to palo alto on saturday to see the stanford vs. oregon football game. (go ducks!) our other plans? are to see friends, eat at expensive restaurants, and enjoy each other’s company before the third wheel arrives. :)

have a great weekend!

no-shame november

miss molly yeh has come up with a brilliant idea: no-shame november. according to molly, in november we're free to do the things we're usually ashamed ofwithout being ashamed of doing them! on my list? is wearing stretchy pants every day of the week, skipping a shower (or two) when i'm too lazy to get my pregnant butt out of bed in the morning, and eating monstrous bowls of ice cream whenever i darn well feel like it. {doesn't this picture of ice-cream cake make your mouth water?}

check out the rest of my "shameless list" here, on molly's blog. and feel free to make your own!

♥ home sweet home ♥

Now that we’re finally {almost} done getting our new house decorated and feeling like home, I thought I’d post some pictures.

But first, I'm starting to panic! Just seven more weeks until the baby’s due, which means less than seven weeks to get her room ready. {You never know when she'll decide to make her grand entrance. It could be tomorrow, for all we know!} Jeff assembled the crib last week, we’re painting an old dresser white this week or next, and we’re organizing tons of clothes and bathroom stuff daily. Of course we’ll want our Christmas baby born into a home with a Christmas tree and plenty of Christmas decorations, so before she arrives, I also plan to deck the house in red and green and everything else “holiday” I can get my hands on. {I’ve been waiting for my nesting instinct to kick in—and suddenly, BAM! It’s pretty much in full swing.}

Without further ado, here’s the current state of our humble abode…

living room

our bedroom {homemade comforter and pillows}

distressed dresser {just paint it white, sand it and whack it with a hammer!}

bedroom windowsill {freddie's favorite spot}

our office {my desk + jeff's music studio}

baby's room {still in progress}

hallway + stairs

kitchen {fresh flowers from saturday market}

dining room

laundry room {chalkboards make even the most boring rooms fun, right?}
